NEW FAIRFIELD NEEDS BRIDGE BUILDERS FIRST

Updated: 08/11/2009 06:01:43 PM EDT

The tale of the two old houses without a bridge to reach them typifies First Selectman John Hodge's lack of managerial and leadership skills and is most embarrassing for New Fairfield.

For months bridges came and went as Hodge leased one bridge, then bought another. Reality finally hit, however, when it became apparent that Hodge failed in his due diligence when the state ordered that the bridge be removed due to the fact that it was out of compliance with the regulations pertaining to the flood plain over which the bridge must span.

Moving these dwellings to the other side of a brook without performing adequate due diligence was poor planning, poor judgement, and poor management on the part of John Hodge. Ironically, Hodge still contends that this fiasco hasn't cost taxpayers "a single dime" despite its funding with $500,000 of Connecticut taxpayer-supported grants. This type of convoluted logic, along with Hodge's further demonstrated lack of due diligence, especially with regard to the communication project and the weevil debacle, is proof positive that Hodge must go.

The team of Monica Thiel and Tom Corbett are the best choice to lead New Fairfield. They are both longtime New Fairfield residents who deeply care about New Fairfield and the people who make their homes here. They have proven themselves to be good managers and leaders who understand the meaning of due diligence, and they will work to bridge the many gaps that Hodge has created with his divisive style of leadership. Please support Monica Thiel and Tom Corbett this November.
